Worth doing, worth doing well? Why then do so many environmentalists fail to talk things out properly .
The first thing is to talk about the problem where the problem is . ( Insert here buzword PDC)

for example, Shellenberger in "Death of Environmentalism " There is no place for public debate in the environmental movement. Even librarians have much fiercer public debates and dialogues than the environmental community. ..... They have peer-reviewed journals and panel discussions at international conferences. The environmental movement needs a national or international forum to debate strategy.
Having another meeting will do nothing . Before you can create debate you have to know why there is no debate - more on cuttingedgeconservation

Question: How important are the maps and plans provided ? Normally a trigger to get you on site is all that is required at first cut for the critical planning issue of system risk analysis . The client may have a specific site in mind , but with land systems evaluation , the whole area should be considered . If you commit the landowner too early to planning detail at his preferred site, it may not be the best site . First step opportunity; second step elimination
Question How important is the preliminary field inspection ? three benefits; allows site flexibility , reduces initial planning investment; most importantly if paddock inspection occurs many potentail risk elements can be eliminated through questions and commitments about the detailed use .

Q When is the amount of information provided enough? Never Therefore no point in asking for more information if you hope it will, in itself, resolve the issue.

Q What is the right question to ask ? the one where the answer eliminates it from the risk estimates
Q What is the right issue to keep asking about ? - the one that identifies a risk element that remains
Q what is the wrong question to ask the client to answer --one you should know the answer to
Q What then is the right size of a good plan ? One that is so small and connected that it can be visualized in your head
